New RESPA Rules to Affect Our Industry

On November 12, 2008, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released new rules to reform the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA). The new rules are designed to help homebuyers be more aware of what their money is paying for, therefore protecting the consumer from unfair loan origination fees and closing costs. From the point of loan origination to the closing, the rules limit the total amount that fees can change to ten percent. Updated forms, including the Good Faith Estimate (GFE) and HUD-1(A) can be viewed at HUD's website http://www.hud.gov. To help the loan originators, H.B. Wilkinson Title Company will provide lenders with a company wide price sheet prior to RESPA's dead- line of January 1st, 2010. We will make sure that our pricing is easy to understand and in return, it will help the lenders be able to give their customers an estimate...in good faith.
